Pizza and Politics with Dr. Mark Pack.

Policy discussion on Friday, September 3rd, 2010 at 7.30 pm. Join Chingford and Woodford Green Liberal Democrats for an evening of Pizza and Politics, with guest speaker Dr. Mark Pack. Mark has extensive experience in modern campaigns techniques and online communications, having been Head of Innovations at the Liberal Democrats until June 2009 - during this time Mark helped move the party into the internet age, developing the wide-ranging online presence we now enjoy - he was also Lynne Featherstone's Campaignmanager in 2005, securing a spectacular 16% swing away from Labour to help Lynne get elected. Mark is also co-editor of Liberal Democrat Voice, the most popular Lib Dem blog, and contributes regularly to political discussion on television, in print and online. Always eager to connect the attractive possibilities offered by online campaigning with the doorstep campaigning we're all familiar with, Mark will sharewith us his views on this year's Federal Conference Agenda and the challenges the Party faces in Coalition.The evening will take place on Friday September 3rd, at local party member Prateek Buch's house (87 Chingford Lane, Woodford Green, IG8 9QS), beginning at 7.30pm - there will be a small charge of £6 per head to help cover costs, but of course this includes pizza!. Come and join us for the first of several planned Hillingdon 'Action Days' for us to get together and deliver some leaflets - which is important to make sure the public gets the real facts about what we're doing, not what our opponents want to say about usWe are meeting on Saturday 4th September in the Cafe Delight on the Uxbridge Road, Hillingdon, at about 10am. Please come along and help even if you can only spare an hour or two. It is always social and fun and we'll probably end up back at the cafe afterwards for lunch and a chat!

Conference on Sunday, September 5th, 2010 at 2.00 pm. Many local party members want to discuss and to influence how things are developing both locally and nationally, and we are holding a half-day members conference on Sunday 5th September at 2pm in the Littleton Village Hall to enable you to do just that. The Party Conference in Liverpool will be a real opportunity to feedback to our MPs and Ministers what we think about national policies (and as a member, you can register to attend here).  As a large local party we send 14 voting members to conference who want to know what you think on the key issues.Winchester City Council are developing their strategy for a distinctively Liberal Democrat Winchester District and want to involve you in their thinking. You are very welcome to come along to our garden party and bring friends along with you.Our guest speaker will be looking at a problem our politicians cannot seem to solve, the never ending war in Afghanistan.Paul Reynolds is involved in Liberal Democrat policymaking - Policy Working Groups on Globalisation, and on International Development. He is also regularly a UK delegate to ELDR (European Liberal Democrats) and Liberal International. In 2009 Paul successfully launched a campaign to change Lib Dem policy on Afghanistan.In his professional life Paul works as a political and economic adviser to government leaders and political parties in poor and middle-income counties, having worked in more than 60 countries worldwide to reduce poverty. He also engages in charitable work. Despite his anti-war stance Paul was appointed Political Adviser to Coalition forces (SAO) in Iraq in 2003, appointing the first post-war regional government there. In 2008 Paul worked as adviser in Afghanistan with UK forces, the British Ambassador and DfID. Paul has worked in other conflict zones including Haiti, Sri Lanka, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, East Timor.
